You can sign in to Family Folder with an email address and password, or with a Google account. Both methods give you full access to your family’s documents. Family Folder also signs you out automatically after a period of inactivity to keep your files safe on shared devices.

Sign in with email and password

  1. Go to familyfolder.com/auth.
  2. Make sure the Sign in tab is selected.
  3. Enter the email address and password you used when you created your account.
  4. Click Sign in.
If your email address and password are correct, you are taken directly to your Family Folder home screen.
If you see an error about your email not being confirmed, check your inbox for the confirmation email sent when you first signed up. Click the link in that email, then try signing in again. You can also switch to the Sign up tab and click Resend confirmation email to get a fresh link.

Sign in with Google

If you created your account using Google, or if you prefer to use Google to sign in:
  1. Go to familyfolder.com/auth.
  2. Click Continue with Google.
  3. Select your Google account from the prompt that appears.
You are signed in and taken to your home screen. No password is needed.
Google sign-in and email/password sign-in are treated as separate accounts if they use the same email address. If you originally signed up with email and password, continue to use that method — and vice versa.

Reset a forgotten password

If you have forgotten your password:
  1. Go to familyfolder.com/auth and select the Sign in tab.
  2. Enter your email address in the Email field.
  3. Click Forgot password? below the sign-in button.
  4. Check your inbox for a password reset email and click the link inside.
  5. Enter and confirm your new password on the page that opens.
  6. Once saved, return to the sign-in page and sign in with your new password.
The reset link expires after a short period. If it has expired by the time you click it, return to the sign-in page and click Forgot password? again to request a new one.

Automatic sign-out after inactivity

Family Folder signs you out automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity. This happens silently in the background — you do not see a warning before it occurs.
Automatic sign-out is a security feature designed to protect your family’s documents on shared laptops, tablets, and family devices. After being signed out, simply return to familyfolder.com/auth and sign in again to continue where you left off.
The 30-minute timer resets whenever you interact with the app — navigating between views, opening a file, or using search all count as activity.

Sign out manually

To sign out at any time, click your initials in the top right corner of the screen to open the account menu, then select Sign out.
