Family Folder gives Family Administrators and Owners a central place to keep your household organised. You can update your family’s name, adjust who has which role, remove people who should no longer have access, and — if you’re the Administrator — transfer ownership or delete the family entirely. All of these actions live in Family Settings.

Renaming your family

The family name appears throughout the app and in invitation emails.
Only Family Administrators and Family Owners can rename the family.
1

Open Family Settings

Navigate to Family Settings from the app menu.
2

Edit the name

In the Family name card at the top of the page, clear the current name and type the new one.
3

Save

Click Save. The new name takes effect immediately across the app.

Changing a member’s role

You can change a member between Family Member and Family Owner at any time. The Administrator role cannot be assigned this way — see Transferring the Administrator role below.
Administrators can change the role of any Owner or Member. Owners can only change the role of Members.
1

Find the member

In Family Settings, scroll to the Members list and locate the person whose role you want to change.
2

Select a new role

Click the role dropdown next to their name and select Member or Owner.
3

Confirm

The change saves automatically. The member’s badge updates immediately.
If you try to set a role to Administrator via the dropdown, Family Folder will prompt you to use the Transfer Administrator action instead — there can only be one Administrator per family.

Removing a member

Removing a member revokes their access to the family vault immediately. They lose access to all shared folders they were part of. Their own files and personal data are not deleted.
Administrators can remove any Owner or Member. Owners can only remove Members.
1

Find the member

In Family Settings, scroll to the Members list.
2

Remove them

Click the remove icon (person with a minus sign) next to the member’s name.
3

Confirm the action

The member is removed from the family immediately. They will no longer appear in the member list or have access to any shared folders.
Removing a member also removes them from any shared folders they had access to. If they were a Contributor or Viewer on a folder, that access is revoked at the same time.

Transferring the Administrator role

The Administrator role can be transferred to any other family member. When you do this, the recipient becomes the new Administrator and you are automatically demoted to Family Owner.
Only the current Family Administrator can initiate a transfer.
1

Find the member

In Family Settings, scroll to the Members list and locate the person you want to make the new Administrator.
2

Click the crown icon

Click the crown icon next to their name. A confirmation dialog appears showing their name and explaining that you will be demoted to Family Owner.
3

Confirm the transfer

Click Transfer to complete the action. The change takes effect immediately — the other person is now the Family Administrator and you become a Family Owner.
This action is reversible only if the new Administrator transfers the role back to you.

Deleting the family

Deleting a family permanently removes the family and revokes all members’ access. This action is available only to the Family Administrator.
Deleting a family is irreversible. All shared folder access for every member is removed immediately. The family cannot be restored. You will be signed out of your account after deletion. Only proceed if you are certain you want to disband the family permanently.
1

Open Family Settings

Scroll to the Danger zone section at the bottom of the page. This section is only visible to the Family Administrator.
2

Click Delete family

Click the red Delete family button.
3

Confirm deletion

A confirmation dialog appears with the warning that this cannot be undone. Click Delete to confirm.
After deletion, you are signed out automatically. All other family members lose access to the family vault immediately.
If you want to disband the family but keep your account, consider removing all other members first so they have time to save any files they need, then delete the family.
