Family Folder is built around a simple idea: your family’s documents belong to your family, and only your family. If you’re wondering how it works, what it costs, or what sets it apart from tools you’ve used before, you’ll find the answers below. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Yes. Every folder you create is private by default — nothing is shared with anyone unless you explicitly choose to share it. Files in shared folders are only visible to the family members you’ve invited and granted access to. We never sell your data or use it to train any AI model.
No. Your documents are stored in our secure backend and are only made available to you and the family members you’ve shared with. We may access encrypted infrastructure for maintenance and support purposes, but we do not browse your content.
Your files are always yours. You can download everything before closing your account. If a single family member leaves a shared folder, the folder and its files stay with the family — shared folders belong to the family, not to the person who created them.
Those tools were built for individuals or work teams, with family sharing added as an afterthought. Family Folder is designed from the ground up for families: folders are private by default, sharing is family-only (no public links), and you can assign per-folder roles — Owner, Contributor, or Viewer — so every family member has exactly the right level of access.
Family Folder works in any modern browser on desktop, laptop, tablet, and phone. Dedicated mobile apps are on the roadmap.
There are three plans:
  • Free — up to 3 members, 2 GB storage, 10 Ask AI runs per month, unlimited folders and files.
  • Family — up to 10 members, 100 GB storage, 150 Ask AI runs per month, priority email support. Billed monthly or yearly (save 25% yearly).
  • Family Forever — everything in Family, paid once, no subscription, no renewals.
Family Folder is free during early access. Everyone who joins during early access will receive a permanent discount when paid plans launch.
You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time. Your data exports cleanly, and your files are always yours.
Once you’ve signed up, go to Family Settings and enter the email addresses of the people you’d like to invite. They’ll receive an email with a one-click join link — no setup, no friction.
Invite links expire after 7 days. If a family member misses the window, you can resend the invite from the Pending invites section of Family Settings.
Go to familyfolder.com/reset-password and enter the email address associated with your account. You’ll receive a reset link by email. If you don’t see it within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.
You can upload any file type — PDFs, Word documents, images (JPG, PNG, HEIC), spreadsheets, ZIP archives, and more. Most common document and image formats can be previewed directly in the app without downloading.
Ask AI reads a file you choose and gives you a plain-English summary, pulls out key dates (like renewal deadlines or appointment dates), and lists any action items it finds. It runs only when you click the Ask AI button on a file — it never analyses your documents automatically. The results stay inside your family and are never used to train any AI model.
Free plan includes 10 Ask AI runs per month. Family and Family Forever plans include 150 runs per month.
Only the family members you’ve explicitly added to that folder. There are no public links and no external sharing — only people already in your family can be added to a shared folder. You can change permissions or remove access at any time.
Every shared folder uses one of three roles:
  • Owner — full control, including managing who has access.
  • Contributor — can upload, edit, and delete files.
  • Viewer — can view and download files, but cannot make changes.
You can set a different role for each family member on each folder.
Yes. Every file is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2+ and encrypted at rest using AES-256. Family Folder runs on EU-based infrastructure governed by GDPR. We will never sell your data, show you ads, or use your files to train AI models. See the Security overview for full details.
Yes. You can download all your files and then close your account at any time from your account settings. When you delete your account, your content is removed from our active systems in line with our privacy policy.
