Family Folder supports multiple ways to get files in — drag and drop, a file picker, and a document camera scanner on mobile. Once a file is uploaded you can preview it inline, move it between folders, star it for quick access, and delete or restore it from the Bin.

Storage limits

The amount of storage available to your family depends on your plan:
PlanStorage
Free2 GB
Family100 GB
Your current storage usage is shown in the upload dialog next to the drop zone.

Uploading files

1

Open the upload dialog

Click Add a document from any folder view or the main toolbar.
2

Choose a destination folder

Use the Folder dropdown at the top of the dialog to pick where the files will land. You can choose any folder you have access to, or leave it set to My Family Folder to save to the root level.
3

Drag your files onto the drop zone

Drag one or more files from your desktop or file manager onto the dashed drop zone. You can upload multiple files at once.
4

Wait for uploads to complete

Each file shows a progress bar and a status indicator. A green tick means the file uploaded successfully; a red alert means it failed — hover over the alert to see the error.

Previewing files

Click any file to open it in the inline preview. Family Folder can preview the following file types without downloading:
  • PDF — rendered inline on desktop; opens in full-screen on mobile
  • Images — displayed at full resolution
  • Video — plays in the browser
  • Audio — plays in the browser
  • Plain text — shown as formatted text (first 500 KB displayed; download to see the rest)
For file types that cannot be previewed, a Download button is shown instead. You can also download any file from the preview header using the Download button at the top right.

Moving files between folders

1

Open the file context menu

Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the file you want to move. You can also select multiple files by checking their checkboxes, then use the bulk action menu.
2

Choose Move to…

Select Move to… from the menu. A dialog opens showing all your folders, grouped into your private folders and shared folders.
3

Select the destination

Click the folder you want to move the file into. The current folder is shown as greyed out so you can’t move a file to where it already is.
4

Click Move

Click Move to confirm. The file disappears from its current location and appears in the destination folder.

Starring files

Star a file to mark it as important. Starred files appear in your Starred view for quick access. To star a file, hover over it and click the star icon, or use the context menu.

Deleting and restoring files

Deleting a file sends it to the Bin rather than removing it permanently. You can restore it any time while it remains there.
1

Delete a file

Right-click the file and choose Delete, or use the bulk action menu to delete multiple files at once.
2

Restore from the Bin

Go to Bin in the sidebar, find the file, and click Restore. The file returns to the folder it was in before deletion.
3

Delete forever

In the Bin, use the Delete forever option to permanently remove a file. This cannot be undone.
If you run out of storage, check the Bin first — permanently deleting files there frees up space immediately.
